The aim when we use actors at our courses, is to train the participants, non-technical skills in relations to communication and behaviour. Skills that are related to the prevention and handling of aggression and violence in clinical psychiatry. When training with the actors, the employees gain different experiences, e.g. how their bodies react when they feel threatened/scared/provoked by patients. We also teach how to register individual signs and how to act on these. Our experience after using case-training with the actors in more than 6 years, is that it emphasizes that when you work with people you work with yourself. And that line of work is best addressed in a dynamic between cognitive and affective learning. We find that making a workshop at the congress where participants can experience learning methods that aim both for the heart and the head, is relevant under the congress theme; "Staff training and education".
