In Germany, the police plays an important role when it comes to involuntary admissions of people with severe mental disorders to psychiatric hospitals. Still, police officers do not seem to be sufficiently trained for dealing with such situations. The current research project aimed to examine police operations with people with mental disorders from the perspectives of mental health professionals and an explorative, qualitative-empirical interview study was conducted. It could be found, that mental disorders are still attached with a great stigma which does negatively influence the interaction of police officers with people with severe mental disorders. Especially regarding the use of coercion the relevance of procedural justice became clear.
